Early Saturday morning, fire tore through the Nanaimo Judo Club's building on Machleary Street. RCMP are investigating the cause as suspicious. Thankfully no one was inside β but the damage means the club is uninhabitable and shut down indefinitely while they work with the City to find a temporary home.
Nanaimo Judo Club has been part of our judo community for decades, welcoming kids and adults to the mat. Now it's their turn to lean on us.
Judo BC is asking our whole judo family across the province to rally behind them. Please consider a donation β every bit helps get them back on the mat:

In the early hours of Saturday, July 11, a structure fire tore through the Nanaimo Judo Club's dojo at 110 Machleary St. on the Sid Gyro Park site, damaging the building's roof, exterior walls, front stairs, and entrance. While the club awaits access to the building pending RCMP and insurance investigations, extensive water and smoke damage throughout the interior is expected, likely meaning mats, equipment, and other essentials will need to be replaced. The club has halted training indefinitely and is now working with the City of Nanaimo to find a temporary space to keep their community moving and training together. For decades, this dojo has been a home for judoka of all ages across Nanaimo, building not just athletes but discipline, resilience, and lifelong friendships. Now this tight-knit club needs our support to cover relocation costs, temporary facility rental, and the replacement of equipment and supplies not covered by insurance. Every donation, big or small, will help the Nanaimo Judo Club get back on the mat and rebuild what the fire took. Please consider giving generously and sharing this campaign to help this resilient community bounce back stronger than ever.![]()
