Although acknowledged as a Judo Canada point tournament for seniors, the Quebec Open is probably best known for attracting judoka for several countries such a France, Brazil, and Japan. The exposure to quality national and international competition was one of the driving factors in Judo BC’s decision to fund athletes to the 2011 edition of this annual event.
Scott McGrandle (Burnaby), Lisa Nakajima (Steveston), Matt Roots (Port Coquitlam), Blake Tsuyuki (Burnaby) and Stefan Zwiers (Prince George) earned their funding position on the Team BC by finishing in the top 5 at the 2011 Senior Nationals while Ali Briggs (Kokoro) and Brandon Jobb (Abbotsford) finished in the top 3 with t least 2 wins in the U20 division at the 2011 Junior Nationals.
Jobb will be fighting in the U20 -81 kg division and will be joined by McGrandle in the senior -81 kg division. Roots will be in the senior -66 kg, Tsuyuki in the senior -60 kg, with Zwiers completing the men’s roster in the senior -100 kg division.
Briggs will in the U20 and senior -52 kg division while Nakajima represents BC in the senior -63 kg division for the women.
