The Championships are taking place November 24th to 26th in Abu Dhabi, UAE and will see four members of Judo BC competing in the shiai – John Huntley, Jim Karas & Jens Krause – all members of Aberdeen Judo Academy in Kamloops and Kathy Hubble, a member of the Kelowna Judo Club.
Faouzi Zerrouk, former sensei of the Richmond Judo Club and now living in London, England will also be competing, representing Great Britain in this prestigious event.
Competitors are divided into 5-year age brackets and compete in the official IJF weight divisions, with the matches spread over 3 days of competition. Minimum age for participation is 30 years of age – born in 1983 F1/M1 with no maximum age; division F11/M11 is for those born in 1933 and earlier!
The proposed new IJF Rules will apply with minimum exceptions affecting Golden Score duration and match time length, dependent on age division. Blue & white judogi are the order of the day, with regulation IJF back numbers indicating name and country representing.
