As most of you are probably already aware, Steveston Judo Club along with Judo BC made the difficult decision on March 12th to cancel the 2020 Pacific International Tournament this weekend. For the official announcement please see – http://www.trackiereg.com/2020PacificInternational.
Judo Canada send out a letter on March 12th recommending “that all provinces and clubs suspend or postpone all unnecessary activities and gatherings“. Judo Canada has postponed the PANAM Senior Championships that was originally scheduled for 16, 17, 18, 19 April in Montreal. These championships will now take place 26, 27, 28 June 2020 and the Canada Cup has been cancelled.
In addition, Judo BC has cancelled the team trip to Canmore, Alberta for the Spring Inter-Provincial Camp and cancelled the Senior Provincials Weekend scheduled April 17 to 19 at BCIT in Burnaby.
Information on entry fee and/or registration fee refunds will be communicated to all participants once we have a chance to find out and review the financial impact of these cancellations.
In terms of team selection to Open Nationals, all athletes that were signed up for Pacific International and/or the Spring Inter-Provincial Camp will be given credit for these events. The requirement for senior athletes to attend Senior Provincials in order to qualify for Nationals has been removed from the selection criteria.
Judo BC will continue to closely monitor the recommendations from Health Canada, Canadian Sport Institute and local health authorities and send updates on events taking place the end of April and May as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this rapidly changing situation.
