The 2015 Judo BC Girls Camp took place August 24-27 at Camp Hatikvah on Kalamalka Lake in Oyama, BC. This is the second year we have run this camp and it proved to be another fantastic experience for both campers and instructors.
The camp kicked off with a life size game of “Rock, Paper, Scissors” only we played “Grip, Choke, Tome Nage” and from there we moved into the first Judo session of the week. To cool off and recover from training, all of the campers would make their way to the dock for some much needed swimming. The rest of the week continued with numerous activities including workshops on mental training, self defense, kata, refereeing, nutrition, and even cross training by learning field hockey. Judo trainings were led by all of the instructors and we were very fortunate to have Yuki Yokosawa, 2004 Olympic Silver medalist attend the camp and instruct one of our sessions.
A highlight of camp was the Judo BC Amazing Race which included tasks requiring speed, agility, imagination, and teamwork! All of our campers did a fantastic job completing the race and having fun while they did it!
Thank you to all of our instructors Donna Hanson, Aline Strasdine, Renee Hock, Yuki Yokosawa, Meghan Jamieson, and Ali Briggs for making this such a memorable judo experience.
To all of our campers, you were so much fun to get to know and spend time with. We hope you had as much fun as we did and that we will see you again next year!
